Leave it to ELLE DECOR A-List designer Augusta Hoffman to create atmosphere in the bedroom. The sleep space in her new Manhattan apartment was given a more masculine edge (at the request of her husband), featuring a tufted leather sofa at the end of the bed that creates the feel of a study.
3. Bucolic Blue Room
When designer Melissa Lee was recently entrusted to transform this Long Island summer cottage, her brief was indubitably straightforward. “We want a place where we can nap anywhere,” the client told Lee. Lee needed no further instruction when renovating the primary bedroom, which was given an antique painting–inspired pattern (Sycomorus wallpaper in maroon and grayish-blue by Zak+Fox) paired with a happy yellow custom wall-to-wall daybed in fabric from Soane Britain. All proof that a tasteful mixture of patterns doesn’t have to feel busy.
4. Muddy Red Room
In this theater director’s New York lair, the walls are drenched in a deep, sultry red that simultaneously brings all the drama and feels calming. The bed—covered in a Dualoy shearling and Dedar fabric and topped with Society Limonta bedding—looks so inviting you could sink six feet into it. When the draperies are drawn, “it’s like a warm cocoon,” says designer Stephen Sposito.
5. Layered Room
Take a load off in the primary suite of this Parisian apartment that is equally stylish and snug. The use of green in interiors has been proven to lower pulse rates and cortisol levels, and this olive green grass-cloth wallpaper, paired with textured antique fixtures, is living proof.
